“Preservation of the Vlaški and Žejanski Language” presented at the Etnofilm2 festival in Rovinj, Croatia

18.04.2010.

Etnofilm², the festival of ethnographic film took place in Rovinj, Croatia, between April 8th and April 11th, 2010. On the first day of this interesting event, at the Multimedial Center Rovinj, Ana Montan and Robert Doričić, collaborators on the project, presented the "Preservation of the Vlaški or Žejanski Language" project and played a selection of video clips which can be viewed on this website in the Kum se fåče...? section.

These video clips document the language and culture in its natural context, in everyday situations as speakers are performing everyday tasks (e.g., preparation of traditional dishes) or taking care of seasonal jobs (e.g., pig slaughter, preparation of cheese). The video clips also document trades and individual skills, such as ironsmithing, singing, instrument playing, production of ethnic souvenirs and so on. In this manner, both the language and the knowledge which are getting lost are documented in an accessible and entertaining way.
