The Language playroom for children Žejančići started its activities in Žejane

25.11.2013.

In September 2013 in Žejane, the Language playroom for children "Žejančići" started its activities. The language playroom takes place every Saturday morning in the premises of the former school in Žejane under the leadership of Adrijana Gabriš and with the assistance of Davorka Stambulić, both native speakers of the endangered Zheyanski language.

The participants of the program are ten children from Žejane between the ages of two and fifteen. The goal of the program is to teach the children the basics of the Zheyanski language through play, drawing, singing and reciting and to make them better acquainted with Zheyanan traditions, customs and everyday life. The childrens' parents are very supportive of the program and through their own participation in its activities, they contribute to the revitalization of the Zheyanski language. This program is carried out as part of the activities of the Preservation of the Vlashki and Zheyanski Language.

"Žejančići" will have the opportunity to present their activities and new language skills on the occasion of two upcoming local festivities—on November 30, during Jadrinja, the festival of St. Andrew, the village protector saint, and at Christmas time, as well as other celebrations in the village and  outside of it. "Žejančići" had their first performance on October 12th, 2013 when they recited Drago Gervais' poem "Pipa" ("The pipe"), translated into Zheyanski by Adrijana Gabriš, to a group of visitors from Rijeka.
