The opening of the Žejane Heritage Center

19.02.2012.

The temporary space of the Žejane Heritage Center  was opened on Sunday, November 27, 2011 in the old school building in Žejane. The celebration of the opening coincided with the celebration of the day of St. Andrew, protector of Žejane, and followed the mass and a cultural program at the Žejane church.

Robert Doričić, president of the Žejane Association, Father Marinko Kajić, director of the Vele Mune Parish, Željko Doričić, member of the Žejane Village Council and Eni Šebalj, vice-president of the Municipality of Matulji, which financed the repairs and equipment for the space, all spoke to the large audience of villagers and visitors gathered at the school. The inaugural speech by Zvjezdana Vrzić, director of the Preservation of the Vlashki and Zheyanski Language project, where the initiative for the opening of the heritage center started, was read on the occasion. The cultural program included a recitation of the poem „Nevu“ („Snow“) by the young Anamarija Strčić, a reading by Adrijana Gabriš and singing by „Žejanski kntaduri“. Anamarija Strčić and Željko Doričić had the honor to open the newly renovated room of the Heritage center, while Father Kajić did the blessing.

The opening of the Žejane Heritage Center, to be managed by the Žejane Association, is another milestone reached by our project. Its main purpose will be different cultural activities geared toward the preservation of the Zheyanski language and other forms of intangible and tangible heritage of Žejane, as well as greater involvement of community members in this type of work. It will also be possible here to access and view various materials gathered in the scope of this project as well as in the scope of other activities.
